Christian Purvis, a native of Martin County, recently completed an Internet technology internship at Beaufort County Community College.

Under the direction of network administrator Brown McFadden, Purvis gained experience in all aspects of maintaining the computer network at BCCC. During his six-week internship, Purvis performed diagnostic checks on the college’s network servers, installed fiber-optic and telephone lines, helped establish student e-mail accounts and other work in the department.

“I wanted him to experience all aspects of network administration and come away from his internship with as much real-life work experience as possible during his six weeks on the BCCC campus,” McFadden said.

Purvis said he enjoyed the experience and looks forward to applying what he learned in his technology career.

Purvis is an information technology major at North Carolina A&T University in Greensboro and hopes to get a job in his field after he graduates in 2014. As a recipient of a Golden LEAF scholarship, Purvis qualified for the internship through the Golden LEAF Scholars Leadership Program. The program strives to provide job opportunities in the rural or economically distressed hometowns of and foster leadership skills among its recipients. Purvis is a 2010 graduate of Williamston High School. He is the son of Angela Purvis of Williamston and Charles Purvis of Charlotte.
