Both directions of N.C. Highway 99 in Belhaven are closed to traffic this weekend for bridge construction. The closure is scheduled to be in place until noon on Monday, Oct. 1.
Crews will construct bridge tie-ins on N.C. 99 as part of a project to replace the existing bridge over Pantego Creek. The contractor for the $14.8 million project is Carolina Bridge Company Inc. of Orangeburg, S.C., and work is scheduled to be complete in December 2013.
Additionally, Swindell Road near Pantego will be closed to traffic beginning at 9 a.m. Monday. The closure is scheduled to be in place until the end of the year.
Mountain Creek Contractors Inc. will be replacing the existing bridge with a culvert. The $346,114 project is scheduled to be complete by the end of the year.
As a detour, southbound motorists should take N.C. 99 to U.S. 264 to Topping Loop Road to Old 97/Swamp Road to Wilkinson Station Road back to Swindell Road. Northbound motorists should use the reverse route.
