Kudos to the Washington Noon Rotary Club for landing the 2012 North Carolina State Barbecue Cookoff Championship for Smoke on the Water during Oct. 26-27.
Landing the 28th state championship speaks well for what the Rotarians have done since taking over Smoke on the Water three years ago. Only once before in its history, has Smoke on the Water hosted the state championship, and that was about 12 years ago.
Having the state championship on Washington’s waterfront this year means area residents will be able to see some of the state’s best barbecue cookers. They come from all over North Carolina. There will be eastern North Carolina style barbecue and western North Carolina style barbecue on hand for the state championship.
Smoke on the Water provides Washington a great opportunity to show folks from the central and western areas of the state what it has to offer.
Washington’s Rotarians have done service to Washington and eastern North Carolina by making Smoke on the Water a venue at which the North Carolina Pork Council believes is deserving of an opportunity to host the state championship.
Let the pig cookin’ begin.
