Southside steamrolled its way into the second round of the NCHSAA 1-A playoffs as it topped Creswell 34-0 on Friday night.
The fifth-seeded Seahawks rushed for 258 yards as Donshae Miller scored two touchdowns and quarterback Cole Kellum threw two for TDs to lead the attack.
“It feels good to get a win,” Southside coach DeWayne Kellum said. “We got a shutout and we didn’t have to score any points after the half.”
A 21-yard TD run by Miller put the team up 7-0 in the first quarter and was followed by a 64-yard TD run by Andrew Jones.
Jones padded the Seahawks lead with a 48-yard interception return for a touchdown that put them ahead 21-0.
After that, Kellum found Isaiah Moore for a 17-yard touchdown pass and then connected with Miller for a 10-yard TD reception to take a 34-0 lead into halftime.
“Andrew Jones had a big night for us. He intercepted a pass and ran it back for a touchdown and ran for another,” Kellum said. “And Donshae Miller had a good night. He ran for a score and caught one from Cole.”
Southside will move on to the second round of the playoffs where it will face the winner of the Cape Hatteras-Plymouth game.
