Beth Batchelor is raising money for her mission trip to the Dominican Republic one frozen yogurt at a time.
The Washington native is holding a fundraiser today at the Sweet Frog in Greenville. From noon to 10 p.m., 20 percent of any sale that mentions her YoungLife fundraiser will go toward Batchelor’s trip.
“It’s not a really big fundraiser, but anything and everything will help,” Batchelor said. “The important thing is before paying, you must say you are with the YoungLife fundraiser. Otherwise, we won’t be able to get any of the money.”
Batchelor is teaming up with one of her good friends and YoungLife participants, Rachel Baugham, for this fundraiser.
YoungLife is a Christian ministry that reaches out to middle-school, high-school and college-aged students in all 50 of the states as well as more than 70 countries around the world. Batchelor and Baugham are part of East Carolina University’s CollegeLife, a YoungLife group for college students.
The ECU students will be heading to La Romana in the Dominican Republic during spring break, March 9 to March 17.
Batchelor said students would be working on construction projects in churches and schools, distributing food to impoverished families and working with children. They also hope to connect with a local branch of the YoungLife ministry.
The total cost of the trip is going to be $1,300 per person.
“I know $1,300 sounds like an outrageous amount to go on a mission trip, but when you start to think that that money may bring people to Christ, it is definitely worth every single penny,” Batchelor said. “Whether you can make the trip over to Greenville Thursday, donate some money or not, our first request is for prayer that God will prepare our hearts as we get ready to go on this trip in a few short months and speak truth to the people in the Dominican Republic.”
