William “Travis” Alligood

Mr. William “Travis” Alligood, age 74, a resident of 818 C.B.H. Lodge Road, Washington, died Saturday evening, December 8, 2012, at Vidant Beaufort Hospital in Washington.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, December 11, 2012, from the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington, conducted by Dr. Robert Cayton and Marty Alligood. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery, Washington.
Larry Boyd, Larry Baker, Terry Baker, Tim Leggett, Lee Moore, Donald Lee Alligood, Gilbert Alligood and William V. “Pod” Alligood III will serve as active pallbearers.
Linwood Dennis, Ernie Singleton, Ray Scott, Troy Lane and Jay Ange will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Mr. Alligood was born in Beaufort County on November 23, 1938. He was the son of the late Bennie Thomas Alligood and Ezora Gray Alligood. Mr. Alligood was a lifetime farmer and worked 22 years as a rural mail carrier. He was an active member of the Beaufort County Grange #1233 for many years. As a member of the Grange, Mr. Alligood served on the executive committee for many years and helped build the current Grange building. He was a member of Rosemary Church of Christ and the Rural Postal Carrier Association.
On March 28, 1959, Mr. Alligood married the former Dorothy “Dot” Jenkins, who survives.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy “Dot” Alligood of the home; his son, Doug Alligood and his wife, Starla of Washington; two grandchildren, Heather Dawn Alligood and Dustin Paul “Dusty” Alligood, both of Washington; two great-grandchildren, Starlyn Nicole “Scooter” Alligood and Harley Michelle Alligood, both of Washington; sister, LaRue Alligood of Washington, and his companion, Blackie.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Alligood was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Paul Alligood.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday, December 10, 2012, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington and other times at the home, 818 C.B.H. Lodge Road, Washington.
