MANTEO (AP) — Dare County authorities say they’re working to recover the body of a pilot from the wreckage of a plane were it was found.
WITN-TV reported that Dare County Regional Airport Director Robert Benson said the body was found Monday in the wreckage of the two-engine airplane that crashed Sunday morning in Croatan Sound.
Authorities have not yet released the pilot’s name. They had searched for him until sundown Sunday and resumed their search Monday.
Benson says the pilot landed just short of the airfield in foggy conditions.
Rescuers were able to pull a female passenger from the water. She was taken to Outer Banks Hospital. Her name has not been released.
