Four commissioners do not represent me

To the Editor:

I am responding to the county commissioners meeting last Friday, 1/18/13, concerning a resolution they adopted to preserve and defend the Constitution of the U.S. in regard to the Second and Tenthh Amendments. A special meeting was called to address this.

I take issue with this. First of all, a special meeting was called concerning national politics. It should only be called concerning the immediate needs of the county. This was not the case. The county commissioners are not U.S. Congressmen and should be concerned with the needs of the county. There are many.

Second, although the commissioners present are so concerned with defending the Constitution, they lie themselves. Three Democratic commissioners were absent, and the commissioners present, Hood Richardson, Stan Deatherage, Al Klemm and Gary Brinn, voted for those absent. I don’t blame the three commissioners for not attending. The meeting should not have been called. It did not concern the needs of the county, but merely served as a bunch of rabble rousing good, ol’ boys meeting to further their own self-interests and garner praise from their fans.

I find these actions full of deceit; they are despicable and cannot be tolerated by the citizens of Beaufort County. The four commissioners do not represent me or thousands of others. The voters of Beaufort County are due an apology. And then … put away your egos and get to work.
