William Thomas “Tommy” Woolard, age 81, a resident of 102 Sunnyside Drive, Washington, NC, died at his home Tuesday, February 12, 2013.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 2:30 PM Saturday, February 16, 2013, at the Woolard Family Cemetery located on Terrapin Track Road in Washington, NC. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 PM Friday, February 15, at Love Missionary Baptist Church on River Road in Washington, NC, and other times at his home.

Mr. Woolard was born August 6, 1931, in Beaufort County, NC, the son of the late James Albert Woolard and Lucy Francis Alligood Woolard. He served his country in the United States Navy during WWII. Tommy as he was known by his friends worked with Beaufort County Iron Works until his retirement after 30 years of employment. He loved his family and spending time with his grandchildren, camping and fishing. Mr. Woolard was known for his great love for animals and especially his pet squirrel “Charlie” that was featured on the Country Rover with Dick Jones. He was a member of Love Missionary Baptist Church in Washington.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Inez Woolard of the home, two daughters, Tammy Asby Tolan and Rita Woolard Williams and husband Lacy, both of Washington, NC; three sons, Phillip Wayne Woolard, Bobby Glen Asby, Jr. and wife Debbie, both of Washington, NC, and Timmy Ray Woolard of Kinston, NC; one brother, Billy Ray Woolard; four sisters, Betty Lou Sutton, Trumella Woolard, Minnie Spain and Maria Alligood, eighteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Arvie D. Woolard and John B. Woolard, two sisters, Naydelle Squires and Mary Helen McRoy and a grandson Scott Allen Evans.
