A chance encounter on Hudnell Street in Washington led to drug charges.

On Thursday, investigators with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office drug unit smelled marijuana when driving by a group of men at the corner of Hudnell and Sixth streets, said a press release from the drug unit.

According to the release, after investigators circled around the block and approached the group, they saw a plastic bag containing marijuana hanging out of one man’s pocket — a bag that contained five other plastic bags of the drug.

Reginald Wilkinson Jr., 23, of Keysville Road in Washington, was charged with possession with intent to sell within 1,000 feet of a child care (facility) and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was confined at the Beaufort County jail under a $5,000 secured bond.
