I want to thank the Washington Daily News for its article on the proposed mine at the headwaters of Blounts Creek. Please use your investigate connections to find out the following: 1) what is the N.C. Division of Water quality’s stance on this destructive discharge? 2) has an environmental impact study been conducted, if so, where can it be viewed? 3) isn’t Blounts Creek one of the N.C. Division of Marine Fisheries’ primary nursery areas, if so, what is its reaction to this proposed project? 4) the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service should also be holding public comment on this blatant disregard of state standards. 5) have the counties commissioners been made aware of the tremendous loss of property tax value of all residents who border Blounts Creek when the aesthetic quality of the water is diminished?

Good for you, Hood Richardson. Why wouldn’t a new jail be located in close proximity to the courthouse? There’s no other solution. It would save on transport and the safety of our officers involved in transporting people to the courthouse. It’d be safer and less expensive. It makes good sense.
