In response to the letter to the editor: I guess Al Capone and Bonnie and Clyde watched too much TV.

When the county builds a new jail, why doesn’t it use the property where the old Family Dollar is? Tear that building down, and if you have to go up two or three stories with the new jail, that would be the perfect place, right around the corner from the courthouse.

I would agree with David Craft insofar as his comments concerning the jail being located away from downtown. One only needs to look at Jacksonville to see a symbol. The tallest building in the downtown area, the most vibrant building in the downtown area, is composed of criminals. That’s somewhat symbolic of the community, I would suspect. The other point: I think it is somewhat disingenuous for folks to use other ideas as to why it should be located downtown when it seems to be to fit the vested interests of the folks who live downtown at the expense of county taxpayers.
