Power Pack

A powerful display at the plate led the Pam Pack to win its seventh straight game in style as Washington belted two over-the-fence home runs to blow past White Oak 15-2 in five innings on Friday.
The Pam Pack lineup was on point against the Vikings as it produced 16 hits in 27 at-bats to up its record to 7-1 (4-0) on the season. Sophomores Haley Hutchins and Adriana Tyson highlighted the assault as each slammed round-trippers in the win.
Hutchins was the first to take White Oak deep and she made it count as she drilled a Vikings’ pitch deep over the left-center field fence in the fourth inning. Not to be outdone, Tyson smashed her second over-the-fence home run of the season as her three-run slam sailed, not only over the regulation fence, but beyond the backup fence stationed nearly another 10 feet back.
The duo’s display of power was a first for fifth-year coach Doug Whitehead, who could not recall witnessing two homers in the same game during his coaching career.
“I think this was the first time I’ve seen that,” Whitehead said. “We’ve had some home runs before but I’ve never seen two in a game. The one Haley hit out was a line-shot that got out quick and probably went a good 220 feet. The one Adriana hit was a moon shot that cleared the second fence and might have gone 240.”
Hutchins was equally a sharp on the mound as she continues to fight her way back from shoulder surgery and struck out eight batters in five innings while allowing three hits.
“She did an outstanding job,” Whitehead said. “It was a very, very good night for her.”
It was a good night for just about everybody in a Pam Pack uniform as every player in the starting lineup had a hit.
Justyce McKissick was on fire and went 4-4 and drove in three runs, while Tyson went 3-4 with five RBIs and Hutchins was 1-2 with four RBIs.
Kaylee Jackson was a perfect 3-3 for Washington, while Anna Hardison, Haley Wright, Faith Benson, Allison Brantley and Catie Dority had a hit apiece.
