Jerry Richard Boyd

Jerry Boyd, a resident  of Land-O-Lakes, Fla., and a resident and business owner on West Fifth Street in Washington, N.C., died April 3, 2013, after a long battle with cancer at Lakeshore Villa Health Care Center in Tampa, Fla.

A memorial service was held April 25, 2013, at First Free Will Baptist Church at Ninth and Bonner streets at 7 p.m., officiated by Travis Boyd.

Jerry was born in Washington, N.C., on Feb. 24, 1941, son of the late Noah Elasiter and Myrtle Carrow Boyd. After retiring to Land-O-Lakes, Fla., Jerry spent many hours helping in his community with doctor appointments, shopping and anywhere he could.

Jerry is survived by a son, Jerry Richard Boyd Jr. of Dallas, Texas; sisters Brenda Boyd Purser, Barbara Boyd of Greenville, Patricia Boyd of Chocowinity. Jerry leaves behind his nephew Cleve Boyd and best friend Jean Eaton and many friends.

At Jerry’s request, his remains were sent to the science center, where he could help others with the research of cancer.

Jerry will always be remembered for his hard work and strong will.
