YOUR TAKE: Karate Kids

KARATE KIDS: On May 11, five students from the Washington Karate Academy competed in the fourth annual Martial Arts Class Tournament in New Bern, in the process, bringing back 11 trophies. Pictured from left to right are Josiah Cox, who took first place in sparring and third places in kata, or forms, (10 to 11-year old, white/orange belt); Patrick Tyler, who took 2nd place in kata and in sparring (8 to 10, white/orange belt); Sydney Chrismon, who won 1st place in kata, 2nd in sparring (10 to 11, white/orange belt); Lillie Tyler, who took 1st in kata and sparring (8 to 10, white/orange); and Blake Lee, who won 1st place in kubudo, or weapons, and in kata, and 2nd place in sparring (14 to 15, brown belt).
