Emma Green

Ms. Emma Green, age 94, of Washington, N.C., went home to be with the Lord on Friday, June 28, 2013.

Funeral services will be held at Mount Hebron Disciple Church located at 210 West Sixth Street in Washington on Saturday, July 6, 2013, noon, with visitation starting at 11 a.m. A reception will follow after the interment at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Emma Green was born in Beaufort County, N.C., on August 19, 1918, to Hattie (Wilkinson) Green and Nathaniel Green. She graduated from Beaufort County School as class valedictorian. Emma relocated to Washington from Belhaven, N.C., where she resided until her death. She was an active and long-time member of Mount Hebron, serving on the Mother Board and singing in the church choir. Emma was also a member of the Over 80 Club, the Senior Citizen Group and Magnolias. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, reading and doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles. She especially enjoyed spending time with the numerous pets she had over the years. She will be remembered for her kind and generous support of many children in the Washington area.

Her family writes, “She was dearly loved. She loved the Lord, was a true believer and a faithful servant. And while we will greatly miss her, we find comfort in know she is now in His loving arms.”

Emma Green is survived by her only daughter, Hattie Gardner of Anchorage, Alaska; granddaughters Sheila Gardner of Anchorage, Leisa Roberts of Houston, Texas, Emma Hudson of Anchorage and Fennisha Gardner of Anchorage; great-granddaughter Valerie Hudson and great-grandson Donovan Roberts; two sisters, Lille Mae (George) Williams of Chesapeake, Va., and Verna Lee Green of Belhaven, N.C. She also leaves to cherish her memory Mary McMullan (Ed) Talley and son of Washington and Harry McMullan of Oklahoma, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and other close family and friends. She was predeceased by her parents and several siblings, son-in-law Fennish Gardner and grandson-in-law Booker Hudson.

There will be a visitation on Friday, July 5, 2013, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Bonner Street Funeral Home located at 219 North Bonner Street in Washington.
