Mr. James Monnie Grissom, age 48, a resident of 113 Charlotte Street, Hamlet, NC, died Wednesday July 3, 2013.

Graveside services will be 1:00 pm Monday July 8, 2013 at Oakdale Cemetery and will be conducted by Pastor Johnny Barber.

Mr. Grissom was born in Beaufort County on April 29, 1965 to the late James Randall Grissom, Sr. and Doris McRoy Grissom. He enjoyed basketball, bowling and was very proud of the medals he was awarded from Special Olympics.

Survivors include four sisters, Sally Cooper and husband Herbert of Plymouth, Barbara Grissom of Carthage, Joanne Singelais of New Hampshire, Dorothy Jean Walston of Manns Harbor, five nieces, Jessica Spear and husband James, Melanie Phelps and husband David, Misty Dawn Cooper, Rebecca Gonzales and husband Chris, Rosemary Cray and husband Chad, three nephews, Robert Cecil Cooper and wife Joanna, David Singelais, Joshua Spring and wife Ashley and foster mother, Betty Ann Sykes of Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his brother, James Randall Grissom, Jr.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until 12:30 pm Monday prior to the service at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 3219 Landmark St. Unit 9, Greenville, NC 27834.
