One couple’s Sunday afternoon motorcycle ride ended in tragedy Sunday.

Peggy Sullivan, 58, a resident of Pinetown, died after running off the road on U.S. Highway 264 East near Lizzard Slip Road.

According to 1^st Sgt. Brandon Craft with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, at 5:35 p.m. Sunday, Sullivan and her husband were traveling behind a truck towing a boat, when the truck slowed to make a turn. No brake lights on the trailer and the short distance between Sullivan and boat caused Sullivan to run off the road, Craft said. She hit first the curb, then a hydrant before being ejected from the motorcycle, he explained.

Sullivan was airlifted to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

Two people died in vehicle accidents over the post-Fourth of July weekend.

No charges have been filed in the case, Craft said.
