BELHAVEN — TriCounty Telecom will add another piece to its communications and entertainment pie today.
The company now offers wireless service. The company teamed up with the largest national wireless service available to add the service to a repertoire that includes local telephone service, television, Internet access, web hosting and design and long-distance telephone service in parts of Beaufort, Hyde and Washington counties.
Terry Raupe, a spokeswoman for the company, said the wireless service would not be limited to TriCounty’s current area of service.
“The cell service is nationwide,” she said. “We can sell to anybody — even in California.”
Raupe said TriCounty added the cellphone service at the bequest of its current customers.
“We had a lot of customers that asked us if we were gonna have cell service, and we always try to give our customers what they want,” she said.
The service is subject to a standard two-year contract.
TriCounty will sell cellphone accessories at its Belhaven office and have smartphones on display. Customers will have access to the full selection of products on the company’s website, tricountytelecom.biz.
“Everyone from ages 9 to 90 is interested in the mobile apps available on the new smartphones,” said Greg Coltrain, general manager of TriCounty Telecom. “There are so many amazing things a person can do with smartphones.”
