Unity Christian gives families a “Minute to Win it” Friday

Published 10:21pm Tuesday, October 29, 2013

Unity Christian Academy will ask families to defy gravity Friday at Family Fun Night, a fundraiser for the school’s general fund. The night includes dinner and a game show.
“This one’s gonna be fun,” said Kimberly Smith, assistant to the school administrator. “Even our administrator is going to play.”
Families will compete in “Minute to Win it,” a challenge to complete a task in 60 seconds.
“There’s no telling what they’re gonna be doing,” Smith said. “Junk in the trunk, something with toilet paper, one with pennies and hose.”
One of the tasks will be “Defying Gravity” where contestants try to keep three balloons afloat using “coordination, concentration and ninja-like reflexes,” according to a demonstration provided by “Minute to Win it,” the television series. The demonstrations may be found with links UCA provides on its website,
Those who fail to complete the 60-second task are eliminated.
In “Penny Hose,” two pennies are placed in the ends of the legs of “unoccupied panty hose. Using only their hands, the player must inch their way down the nylon legs in an attempt to reach the elusive pennies,” according to its demonstration. The player may not stretch or hold the legs open while reaching in with the other.
The toilet paper “Dizzy Mummy” basically challenges the contestant to unroll the entire roll within 60 seconds.
“Junk in the Trunk” involves shaking ping pong balls out of a tissue box tied to the contestant’s waist.
Tickets to the game show are $5 each, which starts at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1.
Family fun begins at 5:30 p.m. when dinner is served. The school will be serving pizza from Frank’s Pizza and Italian Restaurant for $3 a slice.
Families can take advantage of a $30 package that includes four tickets to the game show, one extra-large pizza and four beverages.
“We’ll have desserts for sale at intermission,” Smith said.
The school asks that anyone planning to eat at the event call and let them know so that they order enough pizzas.
