A local session of storytelling will be part of an international event of the same ilk.
Tellabration will celebrate the art of storytelling as some of the area’s best storytellers entertain an audience at the North Carolina Estuarium.
“It’s kind of a yearly celebration, and it’s a nice idea that encourages families to get together and share stories,” said Linda Boyer, one of the organizers of the event.
This will be the fifth Beaufort County Tellabration.
“Each year, we pick a different theme. This year, it’s ‘Tickle Your Funny Bone,’” Boyer said.
The event is appropriate for families with school-age children. The younger set may not be good listeners for the tall tales storytellers like Mima Dixon, Terry Rollins, Phoebe Wahab, Judi Hixon and Boyer have to share.
Boyer said it is a talented group of storytellers, each with his or her own unique style.
“We’re all so different,” she said. “And we enjoy listening to stories as much telling them.”
Fellow members of the Inner Banks Storytellers Group may join them for the hour-long program. The event may even have a surprise guest.
“You never know who’ll show up with a story,” Boyer said.
Sharing memories and spending time together are what is at the heart of Tellabration, said Boyer, who recommends taking advantage of the Thanksgiving week to bond over a few family stories.
“If they can’t come, take the time to just tell some stories at home with their family,” Boyer said.
Tellabration will be held in the Estuarium’s auditorium from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday Admission is $2 a person.
