Are you thinking about starting college for the first time or going back to school to upgrade your job skills? Or are you wondering whether the time is right or your study skills are good enough?

Then why not spend a day at Beaufort County Community College to see if it’s right for you?

On April 10, BCCC is opening its doors to give prospective students 16 years old or older the chance to attend actual classes and meet potential instructors in their classrooms for free.

Attendees of Free Day at BCCC will also have the chance to talk to BCCC staff about admissions, career planning, financial aid, college transfers and academic counseling.

“Free Day at BCCC will give prospective students in our service area a unique chance to learn more about college, to see for themselves what college life is like at Beaufort County Community College and to learn first-hand about the array of services we offer our students,” said Barbara Tansey, BCCC president.

Twelve classes in a variety of disciplines — allied health, arts and sciences, business and industry — are available for prospective students to attend.

They are as follows: general psychology, 8 a.m. to 8:50 a.m.; Salon IV, 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; case management, 9 a.m. to 10:50 a.m.; entrepreneurship i, 10 a.m. to 10:50 a.m.; health, safety and nutrition, 10 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.; argument based writing, 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.; mathematical models, 11 a.m. to 11:50 a.m.; urinalysis and bodily fluids, 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; electrical machines ii, noon to 2:20 p.m.; the nature of America, 1 p.m. to 2:15 p.m.; routing basics, 2 p.m. to 2:50 p.m., and automated welding and cutting, various times from 8 a.m. to 4:50 p.m.

Participants can register to attend as many of these classes during the day as they would like — the only requirement is that participants do not register for more than one class during the same time period and, out of respect for the instructor and other students, that they stay for the entire class.

To attend Free Day at BCCC, participants should follow these three steps:

• Click on the Free Day at BCCC icon on the BCCC website at www.beaufortccc.edu and look over the schedule of classes to find a class of interest.

• Complete the registration form.

• Arrive at the registration desk at Building 1 on the BCCC campus on April 10 about 20 minutes before the first class to pick up a Free Day badge, a campus map and other information about the day. Participants can make an appointment for an academic advising, career planning, or financial aid session at that time.

Free Day at BCCC is part of a weeklong schedule of events during Advanced Manufacturing Awareness Week at BCCC planned for April 7 through April 11. Other events include a Career Fair, industry tours and tours of the campus by local schools.
