From Beaufort County Community College

The latest in equipment and training for careers in advanced manufacturing will be on display at Beaufort County Community College as part of a week-long schedule of activities Monday, April 7, through Friday, April 11 during N.C. Advanced Manufacturing Awareness Week.

The week will feature tours of BCCC manufacturing programs by middle and high school students, a Career Fair, an Open House and a day when prospective college students can attend a dozen classes for free.

The week will give participants the chance to learn about programs offering technical certificates, diplomas, and degrees, as well as educational pathways linking high schools, community colleges, and universities with the world of work, according to BCCC President Barbara Tansey.

“BCCC is collaborating with local manufacturers across the region to present this week-long series of events,” Tansey said. “I hope that prospective students and others interested in the new world of manufacturing will take the opportunity to learn how BCCC can prepare them for some of the emerging careers in manufacturing.”

Monday, April 7

Student tours of BCCC Industrial Technology programs.
Advanced Manufacturing Week Kick-off Dinner.

 

Tuesday, April 8

Career Fair, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Multi-purpose Room, Building 10

Student tours of BCCC Industrial Technology programs

Advanced Manufacturing Open House, 5 to 6:30 p.m.

BCCC-sponsored tour of PAS, USA, Inc., 6:30 p.m. Participants should arrive at BCCC campus by 6 p.m.

Wednesday, April 9

Student tours of BCCC Industrial Technology programs.

Thursday, April 10

Free Day at BCCC, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Friday, April 11

BCCC student tour of iDX.

 

Programs at BCCC have been updated to prepare students for these emerging careers thanks to a Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training Grant from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration. The grant was awarded to 10 community colleges that formed the North Carolina Advanced Manufacturing Alliance.

As a member of that alliance, BCCC was awarded $2.2 million over a three-year period that includes funding for equipment to upgrade its electrical, machining and welding programs, among others, to meet industry needs.
