The Northside and Southside golf teams took to the lush fairways at Bayview Monday afternoon for another conference matchup.

Meteorologically, it’s been a tumultuous season for both golf teams, which have struggled to play scheduled matches due to unremitting rain. But Monday told a very different story with temperatures in the low- to mid-70s, a moderate wind and not a single cloud in the sky.

Lejeune locked up its third conference victory of the season, taking the match with a score of 381. Northside shot 409 and finished second, while Southside ended in fourth place with a score of 457.

All eyes were on star sophomore Tucker Mooring, who has placed in the top five in each one of Northside’s matches this season. The Panthers’ young leader stepped up to the tee to start the match, firing one into the woods and ending up with a double bogey on the first hole. However, the young golfer would recover with a collection of well-placed shots down the stretch.

Mooring finished with a 95, good for second place individually among all golfers. It’s Moorings third-consecutive second-place finish. This season, he’s also tallied a first-place finish at Nagshead, a third-place finish at Bayview and a fifth-place finish at Roanoke.

Lejeune’s Anderson and Day took first and third place, respectively, but Gage Webb’s score of 100 locked up a fourth-place individual finish for Northside. Josh Beamer wasn’t far behind with a score of 101.

Other Northside scores of the day were Trenton Clayton shooting a 113, Evan Corneulius with a 119, Nathaniel Bowen with a 123 and Mara Coltrain with a 125.

For Southside, Ellioit Heuts led his team with a score of 103. Nacy Walker finished at a 116 clip, while Tiana Corbett finished at 119, Keith Warren at 120 and Laura Whittington at 125.

The Panthers will head to Castle Bay in Hamstead to take on Pender in an out of conference match up. Northside and Southside will meet against on Monday, Apr. 7 at Paradise Point in Lejeune.
