Just days after a destructive EF-2 tornado wreaked havoc on an area encircling the border of Pantego and Belhaven, neighbors and rivals Terra Ceia and Pungo came together on the same diamond for the first time this season, as both pitchers showcased their best stuff.

Terra Ceia manager Jason Wynne called upon his young arm, Austin Roscoe, to contain the Raider bats, while Pungo manager John Scott Cutler sent his ace to the hill, senior right-hander Cole Austin Woolard, who is 3-2 with a 1.03 ERA in 34 innings this season. It was a battle between veteran and freshman, and it went as advertised, as Pungo picked up the 2-0 victory.

Both pitchers were masterful through the first two innings, retiring all six batters they faced, respectively. The first base runner came in the third after Woolard walked Kendal Bowen, but the Raiders remained patient at the plate in the bottom half of the frame, plating the first run of the game on big RBI double from sophomore Will Respess.

Sophomore Chase Furlough broke up the no-hitter in the fourth inning on a single to right field with two outs, but failed to reach home.

At the dish, Woolard helped himself in the fourth inning by leading off with a triple to centerfield. One batter later, Woolard scored on a sacrifice fly to right off the bat of junior Ryan Tooley. Two runs of support would be all the senior ace needed to pick up the W.

With one out in the fifth, freshman Austin Wynne picked up the second and final hit for the Knights on the evening. Woolard finished off the frame by striking out Bowen looking on a full count. In the sixth, he returned to the rubber and struck out the side on 15 pitches.

Woolard finished with seven innings of two-hit baseball, nine strikeouts and picked up his fourth win of the season. Roscoe notched seven strikeouts as well.

Pungo hits the road for a rematch against Lawrence on Tuesday, while Terra Ceia squares off against Hobgood Monday afternoon.

The final regular season meeting between the Knights and Raiders will be on Monday, April 28.
