BEAUFORT COUNTY SCHOOLS | CONTRIBUTED K-OS FOR LIFE: A benefit concert for Relay for Life, featuring local band, K-OS, was held in the Southside High School cafeteria on March 28. The band, comprised of five Beaufort County students: Greyson Schmitt, Connor Smith and Zack Pagnani of Washington High School; Caleb Petty of Chocowinity Middle School; and Kendall Smith of P.S. Jones Middle School, played a variety of music, including such selections as “Johnny B. Goode,” “Wagon Wheel,” and “Light ‘Em Up.” Concessions were available for purchase. The benefit raised $715.75. All proceeds were donated to Beaufort County Relay for Life from Team K-OS. The cafeteria was decorated to honor both cancer survivors and victims. Included was a vase of purple and white flowers. Each purple flower represented band members’ loved ones who have survived cancer while each white flower represented a loved one who has passed away due to cancer. Pictures of those who have fought cancer were on display. Survivors were presented with their flower before leaving the concert. During the concert, survivors were brought to the front and had the song, “My Hero,” dedicated to them. The event was made possible through the donations of many people. Dale Cole, principal of Southside High School, provided the facilities. Southside teachers and parents of the K-OS band members donated concession items. The teachers also were responsible for working the event. Flowers were donated by Coastal Wholesale of Washington, PC Sound of Washington donated lighting for the evening, Coke donated banners and gave a special deal on drinks, Captain Charlie Rose and the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office provided security for the evening. Atlantic Enterprises of Washington donated limited edition K-OS t-shirts worn by the band, along with four additional t-shirts that went towards an evening raffle. Those who purchased a luminary received a free raffle ticket in addition to the sale of tickets. K-OS band members will be walking in Relay for Life on May 2 at Washington High School.
