A conversation with the community

The Washington Daily News has been around for a while now, as have some of the Daily News readers. In the recent past, readers may have noticed a shift in what the paper covers: local news, local sports, local politics, local events — one gets the picture.

In the effort to be local and stay local, filling the pages with familiar faces and places, the Daily New offers a variety of traditional and non-traditional ways for input, ranging from letters to the editor to Sound Off calls to Your Take pictures to columns from community leaders. The Daily News always welcomes submissions.

Rather than view the Daily News’ role as dictating news, events, and more, to you, the reader, we like to think of the paper as a tool for an ongoing conversation between all the members of the community. So your events, your news and stories are important to us, simply because they are important to you and your friends and family.

Case in point: school news. Every so often, there may be a page of the Daily News chock full of pictures under the heading “School News.” These images are important to us because pictured are children from Northside, Eastern, Chocowinity, Snowden, BCECHS, John Cotten Tayloe, from any Beaufort County School. More importantly, these children are your students, your children, your grandchildren, your neighbors’ children, your church family and we want to fill our pages with them — because you want to see them.

Just as we have told Beaufort County Schools on numerous occasions — “send it in and we’ll get it in” — the same goes for the general public. We want to know what’s going on with you. Tell us about your event and we’ll try to be there. Send us a photo of your child’s trophy-winning soccer team. Let us know about that person you know who has some hidden talent, or story, deserving to be shared.

Join the conversation.
