Summer is the time of year in which students are released from school, families take vacations and the overall energy of society is at its highest — and summer is here. Baseball and softball leagues, summer camps, trips to the beach, backyard barbeques and other traditional activities are in full swing during the summer.

There are a number of activities already on the summer calendar that residents can enjoy as well. The Washington Daily News published its 2014 Summer Fun Guide last week, showcasing every event offered by different organizations in Beaufort County this summer.

There are activities going on around the county to fit most every interest and experience level. Residents and tourists can enjoy activities ranging from golfing and other sports camps to camping, kayaking and other means of exploring Beaufort County’s rivers and landscapes. For anglers, there are charters available for fishing excursions.

Residents can also enroll their children in a number of summer activities that will not only allow them to have fun, but will also keep their brains stimulated during the months they are out of school.

The Brown Library is holding its annual Summer Reading Program, which will give kids a means of continuing their education during the summer. The library also provides stimulating activities for children to look forward to, including movie showings.

The North Carolina Estuarium and Goose Creek State Park are also offering educational programs for children and adults that will educate them on environmental issues and wildlife.

The “Lets Make a Movie” camp in June will give children an opportunity to experience filmmaking. The camp will involve aspects of filmmaking such as story creation to acting.

A number of sports camps will be conducted over the summer, too, including volleyball, basketball and soccer.

And, of course, the 2014 Summer Festival will be the Washington Chamber of Commerce’s 31st consecutive Summer Festival which will welcome local vendors and merchants and a wide range of activities.

Whether you have the summer off or you have to fit your fun activities between a work schedule, there are virtually hundreds of chances to enjoy another Beaufort County summer in some way, shape or form.
