CHOCOWINITY — Sahaeem Shelton, a member of Southside High School’s Class of 2014, recently had the opportunity to observe the life of a school administrator.

For two days, Shelton followed in the footsteps of Spencer Pake, assistant principal at Chocowinity Primary School. The experience gave him insight into dealing with children from prekindergarten age through fourth grade.

“Sahaeem is great young man who exhibits many leadership qualities,” Pake said. “It was wonderful having him here at Chocowinity Primary School.”

During his visit, Shelton accompanied Pake for afternoon bus duty and he interacted with students and staff throughout the day. He also assisted with technology for testing and he took part in CPS’s AIG celebration.

“I want to thank my mentor, Mr. Pake, for allowing me to come observe him as he carried out his busy schedule dealing with the little people,” Shelton said. “He understood their problems as they came up. Watching him gave me a closer thought of what I want to be, a youth counselor.”

Shelton will put his career plans into motion by enrolling in Beaufort County Community College. He will later transfer to a four-year university to complete his degree.

The son of Jack and Patricia Shelton of Chocowinity, he is active in St. James CME Church where he is a youth usher and sings with the church’s youth choir.

“My pastor, Rev. Vanessa Cannady, has taught me so much about the Lord,” Shelton said. “I want to thank her for guiding me in the direction I need to achieve greatness.”
