William Horace “Bill” Lewis Jr., age 71, died Thursday, June 12, 2014 at his home.

Funeral service will be conducted Monday, June 16, at 3:30 P.M. from the Church Street Chapel of the Farmville Funeral Home by Rev. Tony Glass.  Interment will follow in Hollywood Cemetery in Farmville.

A lifelong resident of Farmville, Mr. Lewis graduated from Wake Forest University School of Law in 1967.  He began a successful 47 year law practice in Farmville with the late John B. Lewis and Bobby Rouse.  Later the firm became Lewis and Associates.  During those years, Mr. Lewis was involved in several civic organizations and was the representing attorney for numerous business groups.  Mr. Lewis will be remembered by family, friends, and business associates in Farmville, Pitt, and Greene County.

Mr. Lewis was preceded in death by his parents, the late William Horace Lewis and Frances Elizabeth Beaman Lewis; and his mother-in-law, Louise Gay.

He is survived by his wife, Charissa Fields Lewis of the home; daughters, Beaman Lewis Upchurch and husband, Bill, and Lou Garrett Lewis all of Winterville; step-sons, Caleb Saunders Stroud of the home and Seth Fabry Stroud of Wilmington; grandchildren, Jackson Upchurch and Camryn Upchurch; sisters, Nell Lewis Beachum and husband, Andy of Washington and Betty Lewis Evans and husband, Don of Greenville; sister-in-law, Saraveen Fields of Jacksonville, Florida; and his many dogs and cats.

The family will receive friends at the Farmville Funeral Home, Sunday evening from 7 until 9 P.M.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wake Forest University School of Law or the Greene County Animal Shelter.
