Iris Irene Cutler Davenport
Jan. 28, 1931 – June 24, 2014

Iris Irene Cutler Davenport, age 83, a resident of NC 92 E., Washington, NC passed away Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at her home. There will be a celebration of her life at 11:00 am, Saturday, June 28, at Woodard’s Pond Church of Christ, officiated by Pastor Skip Hurley. Burial will follow at Pamlico Memorial Gardens. Sarge Woolard, Kevin Cutler, Kent Cutler, Joey Taylor, William Earl Woolard, Robert Cutler, Jr., Al Davenport and Wes Davenport will serve as pallbearers. George Sullivan, Floyd Sutton, Jr. Sammy Robbins, Daniel Gray Adams, Keith Taylor and Mike Davenport will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends Friday, June 27 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Hillside Funeral Service, 4500 Hwy 264 E., Washington, NC and other times at the home.

Iris was born January 28, 1931 in Washington, NC, daughter of the late Nathan and Maude Brinson Cutler. She graduated from Bath High School in 1948. On July 21, 1951 she married Charlie Ray Davenport, Sr., who preceded her in death on January 6, 2014. Iris was a homemaker who raised three children. She was a member of Woodard’s Pond Church of Christ where she was a long time member of the Christian Women’s Fellowship and treasurer of the Adult Bible Class.

Iris is survived by her children, Ellen Davenport Holliday of Jamesville, Charlie Davenport, Jr. of Washington, and Grace Davenport Kennedy of New Bern; her sister, Laura Cutler Sullivan of Washington; her grandchildren, Brandon, Chad, Andrew and Erin; her step-grandchildren, Tracey and Lisa; her great grandchildren, Olivia, Eden and Lauren; her special neighbors, Linda and Fred Squires and Greg and Susan Cox; one great grandson, Austin, who is “on the way”.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Eva Grace Cutler and her brother, George Robert Cutler, Sr.
