Giving back to the community is something Angie Shiflett, the owner of Market Street Massage Bodywork and Gift Shop in downtown Washington wants to do.

In honor of “Everybody Deserves a Massage Week”, Shiflett is offering the community $10 off any massage. Shiflett wants to give patrons a free 10-minute chair massage if they bring in a canned food item.

“Everybody Deserves a Massage Week” runs until Saturday. Customers must make an appointment for a massage.

“I did it last year, but it didn’t really take off,” Shiflett said. “Hopefully this year will be better. I’ll just keep trying each year.”

“There was a list of things I could have done, like going into a business and giving free chair massages or accepting donated dog food that I could have done, but I wanted to do canned food,” Shiflett said.

One of the reasons Shiflett is making the offer is because she feels some people can’t afford a massage; others, can’t afford more than 10 minutes out of their day to get one.

“Everybody deserves something, whether you can afford it or not,” Shiflett said. “Getting $10 off is always a good thing too, because everybody enjoys getting the benefit of saving some money.”

Shiflett has been in eastern North Carolina for six years and said she wants to help her adopted community in anyway she can.

“I just love helping, whatever I can do. If I can lend a hand, I just enjoy it, ” Shiflett said.

To assist with the canned food drive or to schedule a massage appointment visit the 141 N. Market St., location or call 252-946-8989.
