ALFRED RAY WATERS

April 2, 1934 – Aug. 11, 2014

 

Mr. Alfred Ray Waters, age 80, a resident of 101 Camelot Street, Sherwood Forest, Washington, died Monday, August 11, 2014 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

A funeral mass will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, August 16, 2014 at Mother of Mercy Catholic Church in Washington, conducted by Father Buckler.

Mr. Waters was born in Beaufort County on April 2, 1934.  He was the son of the late Charlie Thomas Waters and Fannie Olise Stokesberry Waters.  Mr. Waters served his country and retired from the U.S. Air Force.  While serving in the Vietnam War, he was awarded the Purple Heart and was also awarded the good conduct medal upon his discharge.    He later worked at Stanadyne in Washington.  Mr. Waters was a member of Mother of Mercy Catholic Church.  He was a ham radio operator and member of the ARRL Ham Radio Club.   In his spare time, Mr. Waters enjoyed camping and fishing.

Mr. Waters was married to the former Frances Maureen Peters, who survives.

Surviving with his wife are two sons, Marshall Wayne Waters and wife, Betty of New Bern, Glenn Waters and wife, Angie of Red Oak; three grandchildren, Curtis Patrick Waters, Sarah Colleen Price and husband, Robin, Heather Dawn Waters; five great grandchildren; one sister, Mary Smith and husband, Marvin of Belhaven; brother in law, Billy Everett; two nieces, Sylvia Harris and husband, Tommy, Cindy Everett and husband, Mike;   two nephews, Scott Smith and Mike Everett and great nephew, Cliff Harris.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Waters was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Everett.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Thursday, August 14, 2014 at Paul Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington.
