WILLIAM H. HARRIS

March 6. 1950 – Aug. 11, 2014

 

William Harding Harris, age 64, formerly of the Acre Station community, Highway 32, Plymouth, NC, died August 11, 2014, from complications of a massive stroke suffered on June 16, 2009.  Family members were with him at the time of his death at Fairmont Crossing Health & Rehabilitation Center in Amherst, Virginia.

A funeral service will be held Sunday, August 17 at 2pm in the chapel of Paul Funeral Home, Washington, officiated by Pastor Phillip Jethro.  Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens.  Pallbearers will be his paternal cousins Harris White and Abbie White; good friend Benny Rose; classmate Steve Lee; and good neighbors Randy Brooks and Philip Peachey.

The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 pm, on Saturday, August 16 at Paul Funeral Home, Washington.

William was born March 6, 1950, son of the late Dalton Paul Harris, Sr. and Dera Mae Sullivan Harris.  He was a 1968 graduate of Pantego High School.  He completed a Mechanic’s degree at Beaufort Community College.  He was a member of Long Acre Chapel Christian Church and attended Alligood Church of God.

William was an excellent driver of any 18-wheeler.    His CB handle was “Double Nickel”.  He also enjoyed dancing and was a member of several local Singles Clubs.

He is survived by three children:  Marilyn D. Woolard, Pinetown; Macon Paul Harris, Shallotte, NC; and Mark Anthony Harris, Mitchell, VA; grandson Brandon; and a granddaughter, Emma Davis; three sisters, Norma H. Latham, Washington; Viola H. West, Amherst, VA, and Deborah H. Waters of the home; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.  He is also survived by a loving and caring maternal aunt, Grace Boyd Sullivan Kendall.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an older brother, Dalton Paul Harris, Jr. on February 3, 1970.
