CHOCOWINITY — Chocowinity Primary School students and staff kicked off the 2014-2015 school year in grand style with an open house celebration and a great first day of school.
Open house was held Aug. 21 and students returned to the classrooms Aug. 25.
“We had a wonderful turnout at open house,” said Principal Alicia Vosburgh. “We were able to celebrate with our parents the addition to our playground funded with a grant from the Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust.”
The playground addition, which includes swings and a zip line, is part of the trust’s Healthy Places NC initiative. Beaufort County is one of four counties in the state to receive funds aimed at improving health through community-wide efforts.
According to Vosburgh, the CPS family is anticipating a good school year.
“Our children and staff came in with smiling faces, and everyone is on ‘go’ to continue the success we have here. Our motto is ‘Great Happens Here.'”
Kindergarten teacher Ashley Lewis is enthusiastic about the start of a new year.
“I absolutely love the beginning of school, especially in kindergarten,” she said. “It is like opening a new book. You meet fun, lovable characters. You go on fun and exciting adventures. You never know where the plot will take you. There are laughter and tears. And as the book comes to an end, every moment holds a special place in your heart, and you never forget those precious characters! I am looking forward to beginning a wonderful new book.”
Cameron Hill, a fourth grade teacher at the school, expressed her feelings by posting comments on her classroom web page.
“Another summer has come and gone in the blink of an eye,” she wrote. “It seems like just yesterday I was watching my fourth graders walk across the stage at CPS’s Moving Up ceremony. I am very excited to meet this year’s class and begin our journey through fourth grade together!”
