On Sept. 2, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a domestic assault from the Beaufort County Department of Social Services. The assault occurred in June 2014 and was reported to Adult Protective Services by an anonymous person who had knowledge of the abuse. Investigators began an investigation and conducted interviews.

As a result of information and evidence gathered during the investigation, Investigator Christina Dixon applied for and obtained warrants charging Robert Lee Squires, 40, of Beech Ridge Road, Belhaven, with assault on a handicapped person, assault inflicting serious injury in presence of a minor, assault on a child under 12, and habitual misdemeanor assault. From the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office, Squires was arrested on Sept. 5 and taken before Magistrate Eric Holmes. He was held at the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $15,000 secured bond.
