BCS awards Teacher and Principal of Year at annual banquet

Megan Ormond, who teaches English at the Beaufort County Early College High School, was named Beaufort County’s Teacher of the Year for 2014-2015 during the annual banquet on Sept. 16. Veteran administrator Bubs Carson from John Cotten Tayloe Elementary School was selected at Principal of the Year.

“We are so fortunate to have such excited educators as Megan Ormond in our system and we are equally as fortune to keep experienced administrators like Bubs Carson in Beaufort County,” said Dr. Don Phipps, superintendent of Beaufort County Schools. “It is very possible we will see either of our winners exceed at the regional and state levels.”

Ormond teaches English III and IV-10th grade for the Early College. This East Carolina University graduate joined the Early College program in 2012 from Greene Central High School, where she began her career in 2003.

Carson joined the district in 1978. His first venture into administration was at P.S. Jones Middle School in 1986 and he took over JC Tayloe in 2001.

Congratulations also go to Meredith Southworth, named Teacher of the Year Runner Up, from Southside High School and Alicia Vosburgh, from Chocowinity Primary School, the Principal of the Year Runner Up.
