Bill Cook, a Republican who represents District 1 in the state Senate, has been appointed to serve as an advisory member on the Joint Legislative Transportation Oversight Committee by Senate Leader Phil Berger (R-Rockingham). His term is effective immediately.

The Joint Legislative Transportation Oversight Committee is responsible to review reports prepared by the N.C. Department of Transportation or any other agency of state government related to transportation.

“I’m thankful for the opportunity to serve as an advisory member on the Joint Legislative Transportation Oversight Committee,” Cook said. “My focus in this position will be promoting the needed infrastructures in eastern North Carolina. I look forward to working with my Senate and House colleagues to make sure that the N.C. Department of Transportation has the resources needed to properly address the infrastructure needs in our state.”

The committee is also responsible with monitoring the North Carolina Highway Trust Fund, the Highway Fund, the General Fund or any other fund when expenditures are related to transportation.

“Sen. Cook understands the vital role North Carolina’s infrastructure plays in paving the way toward a more prosperous future,” Berger said. “His leadership and perspective will be invaluable as this committee works to ensure our state has a 21st century transportation system that meets the needs of our citizens.”
