Southside High school jumped out to a big lead early on its way to a 56-34 victory over South Creek.

The visiting team showed off its stellar running game early and continued to pound the ball throughout the entire game, as it beat South Creek into submission.

Southside received the ball to start the game and made quick work of the Cougar’s defense with its stable of shifty running backs, capping off the drive with a 21-yard touchdown pass.

After recovering a fumble on the ensuing kickoff, Southside was able to take advantage of the great field position by widening its lead on a touchdown run by Baxter.

Another fumble by South Creek on its next drive once again gave Southside an opportunity to score, which it eventually did on a four-yard run by Dylan Lewis, making it 22-0.

South Creek was finally able to hold on to the ball during their next drive and used it to close the gap to 22-8, following a touchdown by Romalik Parker a two point conversion.

Southside kept pounding the rock on its next two drives to further its lead to 36-8.

It was only towards the end of the second quarter that South Creek started to show some life on offense. Scoring on back-to-back drives, the Cougars cut the Southside lead to 20 points. The teams ended the half with a score of 42-22.

There was a scary moment on the last play off the half as Marshall Medlock went down with an injury that required EMS to cart him off the field.

Both teams relied on the running game in the third quarter, with the only score coming on a 57-yard touchdown yard run by Southside’s Lawrence Brown.

In the fourth quarter the game play started to become sloppy for both teams with numerous penalties being called. Despite some valiant effort late by the Cougars victory was already to far out of reach.
