With only three games and one week remaining in regular season, the Pungo Volleyball teams are well on their way to another Tar Heel Independent Conference championship.

The varsity team holds the No. 1 position in the conference with only one loss earlier in the season to the Ridgecroft Rams. The Lady Raiders came back a few days later and decisively put down the Rams in three straight games to win the match. Pungo has a 142 record with its only losses coming against Ridgecroft and from a tough Community Christian team from Wilson.

Strong play on the net has come from setters Dana Woolard and Lindsay Respess and from hitters Taylor Mann, Gibsen Armstrong and Jessie Gurganus. Vital support has come from the others on the team: Elizabeth Renwick, Renae Auer and Whitney Harrison.

The Pungo Raiders’ junior varsity team continues to dominate the TIC conference by building a 130 record. They have won the majority of their games in two straight sets, not allowing their opponent to get even a taste of victory.

Team leaders who have consistently put in strong performances are setters Macy Morgan and Victoria Gibbs and hitters Carolina Fletcher, Alexis Carowan, and Rebecca Hodges.

With the TIC tournament less than two weeks away, the Raiders have only two conference games remaining — one with Lawrence Academy of Merry Hill and the other with the Hobgood Academy Raiders. Both junior varsity and varsity teams are looking to stay the course through the remainder of the season to secure a conference championship.
