HALLOWEEN ON THE FARM: Carter Peele, 2, of Chocowinity makes a new acquaintance at Raised in a Barn Farm, which is partnering with the Chocowinity Fire Department on a special Halloween presentation that begins Friday.

CHOCOWINITY — Help wanted: Ghosts, spooks and goblins to help make this Halloween in Chocowinity the scariest one ever.

The folks at Raised in a Barn Farm are partnering with the Chocowinity Fire Department to present Six Nights of Fright, which kicks off Friday and continues each Friday and Saturday through Nov. 1. Also taking part in the festivities is the local Angels N Camo organization.

“It’s kind of cool because it’s going to help so many different things,” said Jane Boahn, whose family operates Raised in a Barn Farm. “We’re excited.”

What started out as a Halloween activity on a smaller scale has grown by leaps and bounds over recent weeks. Thus organizers have put out a call for Halloween enthusiasts interested in volunteering for the event.

“We’re pulling in volunteers from schools, the fire department, friends and neighbors,” Boahn said. “This is a collective effort.”

The centerpiece of the event will be a haunted hayride and trail, where all sorts of scary exhibits are being created. That part of the festivities runs nightly from 7 to 11 p.m. and admission is $7 per person. A headless horseman, a gruesome doctor and other spirits will greet spectators during the farm tour, which promises chills and thrills.

“There will be a lot of twists and turns along the way,” Boahn promised with a laugh.

For safety purposes, the tour is limited to individuals at least 13 years old or those accompanied by an adult.

For the younger set, Angels N Camo is hosting a “Lil’ House of Boos” children’s party in the barn, according to Boahn. Cost for that activity is $5 per child, with an adult invited to accompany each child at no charge. The party runs from 6 to 9 p.m. and will include games and crafts.

“We wanted to do something for all ages, including adults,” Boahn said. “This is something we can build and grow each year and make it a tradition here in Chocowinity.”

Adding to the festivities will be refreshments and live music.

Raised in a Barn Farm is located on N.C. Highway 33 east of Chocowinity.
