S.W. SNOWDEN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL | CONTRIBUTED FIRE AWARENESS: Aurora Fire Chief Kevin Bonner visited S.W. Snowden’s first graders during Fire Awareness Week. Bonner came to talk to the students about fire safety and how firemen do their dangerous jobs each day. Bonner brought his “turn-out gear” and let the students feel how heavy it is. He put all of his gear on, including the breathing tank, and showed them so they are not afraid in the event of a fire in their home. The students were able to look through a new camera the fire department has that can sense heat through walls. This allows the firemen to zero in on fire that may be hidden from plain view and take care of it quickly. Bonner took the time to speak with SWS students about safety in their homes, as well as at school. SWS’s first graders enjoyed being able to speak with a fireman one-on-one and see his safety equipment first hand. Pictured is Bonner with Chris Henrie’s first-grade students.
