JESSIE ANNA CAYTON ARCHBELL

Sept. 5, 1927 – Oct. 18, 2014

 

Jessie Anna Cayton Archbell, age 87, passed away peacefully at DePaul Hospital located in Norfolk, Virginia on October 18, 2014.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday October 21st at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington, North Carolina.  A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday October 22nd at the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington, North Carolina officiated by Dr. Robert “Bob” Cayton.  Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery of Washington.

Ms. Archbell was born in Craven County on September 5, 1927, daughter of the late Jesse R. Cayton and Phebe Tuten Cayton.  She was a 1945 graduate of Aurora High School.  She was married to the late Roy A. Archbell, Sr. of Aurora who predeceased her in 1983.

Following her high school graduation, Ms. Archbell worked as a dental assistant in New York City.  After her return to North Carolina she worked as a secretary in the Army Recruiting Office in New Bern, North Carolina.  When her high school sweetheart returned from World War II, she married him on September 7, 1947.  She and her husband made their home on a farm located outside of Aurora where they reared their three children.

Ms. Archbell worked for over eleven years as a secretary at Texas Gulf Sulfur.  For many years she was an active member of the Dublin Grove Baptist Church located in the Community of Royal near Aurora.  She lived each and every day pursuing the life of a true Christian.

She dedicated her life to her family, the family farm and her faith in the Lord.  Of her it may truly be said, “She never met a stranger”.  She will be fondly remembered and celebrated by all who knew her.

Ms. Archbell is survived by her children, Roy A. Archbell, Jr. and wife Mary Charles Archbell of Southern Shores, North Carolina, James Bryan Archbell and Wife Karen Archbell of Southern Shores, North Carolina, and daughter Nancy Gail Park of Santa Fe, New Mexico; five grandchildren, James Bryan Archbell, Jr., John Paul Archbell, Susan Elizabeth Archbell, Kimberly Ann Sarrell and Steven Douglas Yaccarino, II; and six great-grandchildren.
