SWAN QUARTER — Mattamuskeet School campus library recently received a prized donation — a collection of World War II Life magazines.

“These magazines are a good source of information for researchers, teachers, or writers of the subject,” said Anna Clarke, wife of the donor of these historic magazines, E. Royden Clarke of Engelhard.

On a previous Veterans Appreciation Day at Mattamuskeet Schools, Clarke, a U.S. Navy veteran, along with several other Hyde County veterans, shared personal memories with MECHS middle grades students about their travels and other war stories while in service to this great country.

On that previous visit, Clarke, who is very knowledgeable about veterans who served in the armed forces from Hyde County also shared that he was in the process of writing a book on the subject.

Everyone is invited to come out to the library and browse through the World War II historical information to be found in the pages of these magazines. You can find them in the Hyde County history section.

Mattamuskeet Schools thank Clarke for sharing this valuable collection.
