DENNIS RAY MODLIN

Aug. 9, 1955 – Nov. 11, 2014

 

Mr. Dennis Ray Modlin, age 59, a resident of 3387 Possum Hill Road, Bath, died Tuesday afternoon, November 11, 2014 as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM on Friday November 14, 2014 at the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington officiated by Rev. Curtis White.  Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.    Timmy Flowers, Jim Davenport, Jamie Weatherington, Jerol Selby, Wallace Selby and Charlie Pickford will serve as pallbearers and Mark Faris will serve as an honorary pallbearer.

Dennis was born in Beaufort County on August 9, 1955 son of Hilton Ray Modlin and the late Lucy Marlene Smith Modlin.  He was a 1973 graduate of Washington High School.  Dennis was a carpenter and commercial fisherman for over 20 years.  He worked with Beaufort County Building Inspections as an inspector for 16 years and was proud to do so.  He was an accomplished musician and singer and playing music was his favorite hobby.  Dennis loved gardening, fishing and being “Poppy” to his grandchildren.  He loved his Karen and she loved him.  Dennis was very proud of his three children and two step-children and their good hearts.

Dennis was a Christian always studying the scripture.  He loved the Lord and was passionate about God’s word.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Karen Ann Flowers Modlin of the home; his father: Hilton Ray Modlin of Washington; his three children: Brent Modlin and wife Wendy of Greenville and their children: Joseph Brent Modlin, II “Jobey” and Jackson Brody Modlin; Dana Modlin Berry and husband Greg of Bath and their children: Wyatt Forbes Berry, Sophie May Berry and Landry Stuart Berry; Justin Thomas Modlin and wife Crystal of Bath and their children: Tyler Andrew Modlin, Landon Thomas Modlin, Trinity Grace Modlin and Bodie Jase Modlin; his stepchildren: Caleb Karlee Roberson of Pearisburg, VA and Linzy Ann Roberson of Wilmington; his siblings: Becky Modlin Jenkins and husband Ronnie of Williamston, Wanda Modlin Godwin of Rocky Mount, Hank Terry Modlin of Washington, Rita Modlin Coggins and husband Steve of  Rocky Mount, John Modlin and wife Sarah of Washington, multiple nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his mother, Lucy Marlene Modlin and his brother, Sam Stuart Modlin.

The family will receive friends 6:30-8:30 PM on Thursday November 13th at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington and other times at the home.
