The MATTIE Arts Center is hosting an engraving workshop by artist Jessica Credle. This is one of the many workshops she has conducted at the Center with great attendance and success. One of the most popular designs is the Carolina crab as seen in the photo but other designs are used as well. No prior art experience is needed to enjoy success at this craft.

The workshop is held in the downdraft studio at the MATTIE Arts Center. The downdraft studio has been very well used since it was dedicated on July 24 of this year. Woodworking, glass engraving and other dust-producing crafts are held in the room equipped with safety equipment and tools. The worktops are well lit, and as the artist works, particles are removed by the vacuum system, which has inlets at various stations along the workbench. The setup not only protects the artist from dust particles, but it allows those who may suffer from breathing issues to enjoy the experience of dust-producing crafts when they may otherwise miss out.

The glass-engraving workshop will be held at the MATTIE Arts Center on Dec. 6 for two three-hour workshops teaching glass-engraving techniques. The Center is located at 10 Oyster Creek Rd., Swan Quarter. To sign up or to get more information, contact Judy McLawhorn at 252-943-8991 or jhmclawhorn@aol.com.
