A Chocowinity woman was arrested this week after a dispute of property turned violent.

According to a Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office press release, deputies arrested Gina Burroughs Hill, 53, of Bay Shores Road, after Hill allegedly ran down another woman with her car. Hill was charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.

The call originally came in as a report of a dispute involving a firearm, but when deputies arrived at the Bay Shores Road residence, they found an injured female in the driveway.

“We interviewed witnesses who also said a firearm was used to make threats, but no firearm was recovered in the investigation,” said Maj. Kenneth Watson, spokesman for the sheriff’s office.

Watson said the dispute evolved over personal property: the victim was the ex-girlfriend of Hill’s son and was moving out of the residence, allegedly leaving behind some damage.

“A confrontation ensued after Ms. Hill arrived at the property. During the dispute, Ms. Hill backed out of the property and backed over the victim, which led to a broken ankle,” Watson said.

The indication is that the injury was done deliberately, as Hill veered the vehicle sharply in the direction of the victim, according to officials.

The victim was taken by EMS to Beaufort Vidant Hospital, then airlifted to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, a move Watson chalked up to precautionary measures.

“Any time you have a motor vehicle hit a pedestrian, there could be internal injuries,” he said.

Hill was held at the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $5,000 secured bond. The victim is expected to recover, officials said.
