JESSIE “MANUEL” HOUSLEY

May 28, 1931 – Nov. 23, 2014

 

Mr. Jessie “Manuel” Housley, age 83, a resident of Second Street, Washington died Sunday November 23, 2014.

A graveside service with Military Funeral Honors and Masonic Rites will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at Oakdale Cemetery.

Mr. Housley was born on May 28, 1931, son of the late Willie Housley and Lillie Gentry Housley.  On May 22, 1950 he married the former Melba Chauncey who preceded him in death on January 13, 2012.  He retired from the Naval Depot in Cherry Point as a tool and die maker and served his country in the US Army and Marines.  Mr. Housley was a member of Old Ford Church of Christ, an instructor with Boy Scouts of America, Masonic Lodge Orr Lodge # 104, a lifetime member of D.A.V., the American Legion, York Rite Masons and York Rite Sovereign College of North America.  He was known to be a great men’s softball player and coached many girls the art of fastpitch softball.

Mr. Housley is survived by his son: Douglas Manual Housley and wife Sharon of Chocowinity; grandchildren, Wayne and Tania Harris of Chocowinity; great granddaughter, Katie Harris of Chocowinity and several nephews.

In addition to his wife and his parents, Mr. Housley was preceded in death by a sister, Carrie Belle Johnston.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and other times at his home, 525 E. 2nd Street, Washington.
