MARIE B. TYER

Aug. 17, 1921 – Dec. 13, 2014

 

Mrs. Marie Ayers Bowers Tyer, age 93, a resident of 108 Pine Lane, Washington, NC died Saturday December 13, 2014 at Vidant Beaufort Hospital.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday December  15, 2014 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington officiated by Pastor Bob Paciocco.  Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.  Mike Smith, John Moore, Jonathan Davenport, Tyler Coward, Keith Zissette and Keith Davenport will serve as pallbearers.  Honorary pallbearers will be her great grandsons.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sunday December 14, 2014 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and other times at the home of her daughter Joan Moore located at 308 Williamsburg Road, Washington.

Mrs. Tyer was born in Edgecombe County on August 17, 1921 daughter of the late Samuel Owens Bowers, Sr. and the late Lillie Ayers Bowers.  She married Matthew Benjamin Tyer, Sr. on October 6, 1937 who preceded her in death on April 30, 2002.  Mrs. Tyer dedicated her life to her family by being a homemaker and also worked as an assembler with Hamilton Beach.

Survivors include a son: Matthew Benjamin Tyer, Jr. and his wife Lioubov of Raleigh; four daughters: Edna T. Smith and her husband Thurman of Plymouth, Joan T. Moore and her husband Durwood of Washington, Peggy T. Willis and her husband Mickey of New Bern and Kathy Tyer of Washington; a brother: R.B. Bowers and his wife Betty of Atlanta, GA; a sister: Sarah Lee of Washington; ten grandchildren: Lisa Zissette, Carla Davenport, Mike Smith, John Moore, Monica Davis, Denise Godwin, Ray Baker, Jonathan Davenport, Tyler Coward and Mila Korobkina and sixteen great grandchildren.  Mrs. Tyer was predeceased by a son: Charles B. Tyer; a great grandchild: Grace Smith; two sisters: Isabel Dixon and Peggy Langley and a brother: Samuel Bowers, Jr.
