RICHARD WYLEY MERCER

Richard Wyley Mercer, 61, of Bath passed away on December 21, 2014.

Rick was born in Wilson, North Carolina on January 16, 1953. He graduated from Saratoga Central High School and continued on to receive both a Bachelor’s Degree and a Master’s Degree  from East Carolina University. Rick worked as a teacher at Washington High School for many years. He enjoyed reading, playing all kinds of musical instruments and most of all, the company of his constant companion, his beloved dog Sam.

Rick is survived by his wife, Sallie;

step-son, Kenny Howell, his wife Bridgette, and their three children; his brother Greg; and the rest of his family and friends. Rick is preceded in death by his parents, Henry Marvin Mercer, Jr. and Doris Yelverton Mercer; as well as his brother, Henry Marvin Mercer, III.

A private memorial service is planned for this spring. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to The Pamlico Tar River Foundation, PO Box 1854, Washington, NC 27889.
